Vission and mission
VISION
To create a future where nature and human development coexist in balance; where forests flourish, ecosystems thrive, endangered species are protected, climate threats are mitigated, and communities are active partners in safeguarding the natural world for generations to come.
MISSION
The Commission works to conserve forests, wildlife, and ecosystems; strengthen climate adaptation; promote sustainable practices; advance environmental justice; and build a resilient, climate-secure society through research, education, policy advocacy, and community involvement.
Our Objectives
The Environment, Forest & Climate Change Commission is committed to achieving the following core objectives that guide all our programmes, policies, and initiatives:
- Protect and conserve endangered and threatened species and the habitats essential for their survival.
- Restore degraded ecosystems to enhance biodiversity and ecological health.
- Prevent deforestation and promote scientifically sound, sustainable forest management practices.
- Reduce greenhouse-gas emissions through conservation, restoration, and climate-smart interventions.
- Educate and sensitize the public about biodiversity, wildlife protection, and sustainable environmental behaviours.
- Conduct and support rigorous research on wildlife, forests, and climate change to inform conservation policy.
- Engage and empower local communities in sustainable livelihood and conservation programmes.
- Monitor, survey, and document wildlife populations to assess species health and conservation status.
- Advocate for strong environmental laws, conservation policies, and climate-resilient planning.
- Implement large-scale reforestation and afforestation to revive native forests and enhance carbon sequestration.
- Combat illegal wildlife trade, poaching, and trafficking through monitoring, enforcement, and awareness efforts.
- Promote sustainable and eco-friendly tourism that benefits local communities and protects wildlife.
- Safeguard and restore water bodies, river systems, wetlands, and watersheds critical to ecological balance.
- Manage, control, and eradicate invasive species threatening native biodiversity and ecosystem function.
- Identify, protect, and manage biodiversity hotspots and high-priority conservation landscapes.
- Build resilience in natural ecosystems and human communities to adapt to climate-change impacts.
- Promote waste reduction, recycling, and circular-economy practices to curb environmental pollution.
- Support and accelerate the development and use of renewable and clean energy alternatives.
- Establish and maintain wildlife corridors to ensure safe migration, dispersal, and genetic exchange among species.
